Teaser for Tuesday

Gather Graphic

Here’s a brief line from my novel, Gather Sticks Along the Way. Like most writers it came out of a love of reading. I set out to write a book I would like to read. Pick up a copy on Amazon.

Gather Sticks Along the Way: A Novel – This is the story of an average man who looses his son. As simple actions by multiple individuals begin to unfold, a tragedy is formed and Charles Lamb is caught in the middle. After several events occur in what appear to be coincidence, he believes he knows what happened. His search for answers causes him to do things he’d never imagine and go against the beliefs that make him who he is.  His faith will either see him through this catastrophe or cause him to lose all he has left.

College Football Questions: Week Four

College Football Questions Logo _Filter

We all knew this week would be different than the previous ones this season, but we didn’t know it would be like this. Expletives belong on the practice field and in the stands, but no one told that to the Heisman winner. We only have a few questions this week so let’s get started.

  • The largest question on everyone’s mind has already been answered. Yes, the table claimed it was consensual…
  • What do you get when you get accused of sexual assault?
The Heisman

  • What do you get when you steal seafood?
Three Game Vacation

  • What do you get when you shout obscenities on campus?
An entrance that's fashionably late

A fashionably-late entrance to one of the biggest games of the season

  • What do we get? Confirmation that this guy is a punk.
  • Why is an Alabama player missing the first half of his game? Because he accidentally bumped heads with a Southern Miss player. This after serving a suspension from the last half of that game as well.
  • Coach Nick goes against his one-time assistant, Will Muschamp this weekend and that got me thinking. Who all has coached under ol’ Saint Nick? Here’s a look at some of the most notable coaching Nick’s done.

Now let’s enjoy the games and be glad we are watching where none of the players and coaches can hear us.

CFB Questions: Doppelgangers

College Football Questions Logo _Filter

Week Three has kicked off and PlayoffSelectionCommitteewe are already seeing things go crazy this season. The USC AD and selection committee member takes to the sideline, games called after a kick return, and the Big Ten getting embarrassed in non-conference play. Well I guess the last one isn’t that rare. One of the other things I’m starting to notice is coaching doppelgangers. Coaching look-a-likes are popping up as frequently as NCAA infractions.

So my question for the college football world is, does anyone else see it?

Buffalo_Holgorsen

If you see coach wearing night vision goggles, just leave him alone…

Christie_Hoke

Whether it’s bridge traffic or their run game, lanes are blocked.

Helfrich_League

Both have an eye for the flamboyant outfits.

Kelly_LeagueOTO

It’s uncanny.

Mullen_CousinEddie

And both enjoy the sounds of cowbells.

Stoops_Kool

Red shirt-check. Khakis-check. Loud and increasingly annoying over time-check and check.

VanGorderr_Rico

It’s just obvious at this point.

As always, let’s enjoy the games and be glad we are sitting where the coaches and players can’t hear us.

Just Added

Last week I posted that I’d created a store on Etsy. I’ve added a few items including these small wooden items. I’ve been making mostly large wall hangings, but I tried making a few smaller ones and really like the way they turned out. They are great to fill out a small space on a wall or stand them up and add some personalization to a desk or table top. I added some hooks on one and have a cool place to keep our keys. Check them out if you get a chance. I’ll be making a few more soon.

Simple DIY Bench & Planter

BENCHTITLE

How to build the easiest, simplest, & cheapest bench

I’ve liked looking at different bench designs for a while now. For something that’s so standard as just a bench, there are literally hundreds of ways to make them. I was looking for a very simple one to put on the back patio of my house.  We don’t use the area much but I thought it still needed something. Then I came across this design and thought it would be great. Here’s how I did it.

I picked up some 2x4 I had from another project and cut them to the same length.

I held them together using 1x3s screwed to each piece.

Then I sanded it and covered with a thin layer of spray can lacquer.

I got three cinder blocks

I picked up spare cinder blocks form a pile of leftovers. I put some potting soil, mulch, and a small plant in the top. I decided to just go with a small annual flower that didn’t require much care.

And there you go. I’ve got a nice little place to sit that cost me less than five dollars. Mine doesn’t look exactly like Jilian Dee’s but she’s a professional and I’m just a dude with a blog. I think what I like most about this item is that I really only used items I already had laying around from other projects. I think it’s funny that those are the jobs that usually end up leaving me with the greatest satisfaction.

I’m on Etsy

Throughout my time with this blog I’ve posted several projects I’ve done and things I’ve built. I made them mostly out of necessicity to decorate our home in our own unique way. In doing this I’ve made a few things that garnered some interest so I decided I’d make a little store to show some of my work. I’ve got the first item posted with more on the way. Click here to check out my shop. Here’s a preview:

Check it out if you have a chance. Let me know if you like what you see so far. Thanks!
